Review of Room 237 (2012) by Graham B — 06 Nov 2014
A documentary giving voice to fans and film scholars as they offer up their theories behind the various themes in Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. From the plight of the Native American; Allegory of the holocaust and even Kubrick admitting to faking the film of the moon landing.
Nothing is left to continuity error or aesthetic artistry. Everything has a meaning. For the most part it is rather silly and it does go on a bit. I liked the exposure of the gaffes in the film (impossible windows, disappearing furniture shot to shot) but none of the theories holds much water and it is quite laughable how much time these theorists have wasted watching this (IMO mediochre) film frame by frame.
I think you need to be a fan of the film to appreciate this. I am not.
