Review of Room (2015) by Bret B — 04 Mar 2016
Still making my way through the Oscar-flicks!!! Tonight it was "Room." This movie was (there's no other word for it...) shattering. I was obliterated. Just a mess of crying and dumb facial expressions, I'm sure.
The story is about a girl who was kidnapped and imprisoned within a storage shed for 7 years. In that time, she has a baby boy who is her "everything" and ultimately, her savior. Brie Larson was wonderful.
Of course she was. She won a damn Oscar. That does not change the fact that her performance was absolutely raw and beautiful. But Jacob Tremblay as her son absolutely killed me. THAT KID DESERVED BEST ACTOR.
So far, my favorite of the Oscar movies I've seen. The others felt topical or timely. This movie was about the perseverance of the human spirit. That, with proper execution, is transcendent. This movie was exactly that.
