Review of Room (2015) by Dana F — 04 Jul 2017
Every year, the academy throws a bone to an indie flick for a Best Picture nod, and this year's selection is "Room". And, as usual, it's my favorite of the bunch. The film is gripping and emotionally wrenching, anchored by incredible performances, especially little Jacob Tremblay playing a 5-year-old kid.
I don't want to say too much because the less you know about this film going into it, the better. Suffice it to say that this kid absolutely sells not only his own character, but also the situation and by extension, everyone else's characters too.
It's riveting from start to finish; alternatingly funny, tense, and emotional, and had me thinking about it long after the credits rolled. But the best part about it is that though the film is about something so terrible and traumatic, it leaves you feeling so good.
It's about as perfect a film as I have ever seen.
