Review of Rookie of the Year (1993) by Ashley T — 28 Apr 2011
The Chicago Cubs, World Series champs? Ha! It must be a movie. This one brings out the kid in me. Even with some technical inaccuracies, some gimmicky slapstick for kids, and a tiny bit of overacting, the movie is simply charming.
It realizes every kid's dream of being famous, while still including themes about friendship and growing up and mostly avoiding the cheesiness. Even the adult characters get their own moments, giving parents and my more mature self a little something to enjoy.
