Review of Romy and Michele's High School Reunion (1997) by Tim S — 07 Jan 2014
There are plenty of things to like about Romy and Michele's High School Reunion. On the surface, it's a fun romp about two valley girl-types that learn as they go to their high school reunion that they may not be as cool as they thought they were back in the day.
Under the surface, well, there's nothing really. This isn't a movie that requires you to do a whole lot of thinking, or have something to talk about after it's over. It is what it is, and while I didn't find it laugh-out-loud hilarious, I can certainly see its appeal.
I thought it was a charming movie, and it didn't feel dumbed down for audiences. It's definitely a girly sort of movie, but guys can watch it and not feel uncomfortable or bored. Plus Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow are great eye candy.
You can also spot Alan Cumming and Janeane Garofalo in the supporting cast, as well. It's not a big masterpiece of comedy by any stretch, but it's funny, unoffensive and doesn't contain any cynicism at all.
