Review of Romulus, My Father (2007) by Nick D — 29 Jul 2008
The cast of this independent movie is international. The father and son storyline is all about bonding and the reflections on youth and affection for a boy. But, the other thematic which is curious in this film is disengagement. The strange commotion in the human character to be able to destroy that which they have somehow been able to create. As if the fact that parents have trouble adjusting to the heavy burdens of life is an excuse to not behold the importance of nurturing motherhood or fatherhood. As if we can bring a child into this world on a whim. By magic it will simply grow like the sacred beans in that legendary fairy tale Jack and the Bean Stack.
Each generation is a down-going and an up-going. individuals who decide to conceive a family cannot think that it will be all about pleasure, beauty, lust and fun. Dirty diapers, temper tandrums, and teething tots are only some of the downs not to mention the sleepless nights. But, sequential patience, good emotional , physical and intellectual hygiene makes a parent an authoritative figure to be accepted and appreciated. Acceptance is truly the key. To open the bond that is both quantitative and qualitative. In such a situation both parties get a surplus vector. It is noble not to make our children victims. Rent the DVD this is a beautiful Australian view.
