Review of Romeo Must Die (2000) by Kenneth H — 15 Feb 2008
So cheesy and dumb. The plot is uninteresting, irrelevant and easily forgotten. Jet Li's Han Sing is clearly a fish out of water and he looks and sounds like a dumb fob throughout the entire movie; every time he opens his mouth I want to burst out in a combination of laughter and pitiful sorrow.
There is little, if any, chemistry between Han and Aaliyah's Trish O'Day, reinforcing the stereotype of the shy, weak sexless Asian man. ("Romeo" my ass.) The martial arts, supposedly the movie's biggest selling point, is lackluster and gets old after awhile.
