Review of Romeo Must Die (2000) by Ruhan R — 27 Nov 2011
I thought it was pretty unnecessary for the producers to have even attempted at referencing Shakespeare's famed love story. Romeo Must Die was one of those movies you don't expect to entice you intellectually, it's one of those movies you watch when you just wanna relax and be entertained.
This movie made me realize that Jet Li is actually not such a great performer-he's just loved because of his ability to look cool in those lighting-quick fight scenes-despite often using stunt doubles.
The plot of this film was fairly plain, and the characters didn't have a whole lot of depth. Regardless of it's two-dimensional nature, the script did feature a mildly entertaining plot for an action flick.
The directing however, was not too shabby. Bartkowiak coordinated all sectors well. The camerawork was well executed and the soundtrack was solid too. Overall, a decent action movie.
