Review of Romeo and Juliet (1968) by Constantin R — 19 Mar 2008
Great cast for this universal and timeless story. Is not a crucial moment of Shakespeare's adaptation, but is very close to the stage. Although is used the stage-like dialogs, there are very good cinematic moments.
The first one is the dialog between Romeo and Mercutio from the first act, just before the feast. Then is the dancing, when the faces are viewed fugitive because of the fast dance. The antithesis came when Romeo and Juliet speak one to each other and the music is calm and splendid.
From that anarchic dance to this peaceful moment just few moment has passed... Another camera perfect use is in the battle between Romeo and Tybalt. When Romeo and Juliet are in the same frame, all this became calm, pure delightfull moments.
