Review of Romeo and Juliet (1968) by Waldo I — 10 Apr 2009
Nobody ever gets Romeo and Juliet right. It's the anti-Jane Austen. Juliet doesn't want the life her parents have arranged for her, so she sleeps with the dopey bad boy, and it gets her killed. What was Romeo doing at the party the night he met Juliet? He was out with friends, trying to forget the last girl he was "destined" to be with. It's not supposed to be romantic, it's supposed to be MOCKING.
It'd be like making a Don Quixote movie where Don Quixote ISN'T crazy.
