Review of Romeo and Juliet (1968) by Genevieve G — 24 Sep 2009
Adapted from one of my all-time favorite plays, this is a strong piece of work that is considered by a lot of people to be the definitive version. Italian director Franco Zeffirelli skillfully guides his untrained leads and infuses the film with a sumptuous visual element.
The performances are strong from the whole cast, and the text itself is faithfully brought to life. The cinematography and locations are gorgeous, and the vibrant costume design deserves mention as well.
