Review of Romancing the Stone (1984) by Mike H — 29 Jan 2010
This was one of the movies my parents had on Beta, so being a movie from my childhood I thought I'd pick it up when I saw it for cheap on DVD. To a certain level, some of the romance/adventure/comedy works.
But all in all, it's too much of a reaffirmation parody to be believable and too pseudo-clever to really enjoy. It's one of those movies that worked in its era, but can't stand the tests of time.
It's "Goonies" for adults but less charming.
