Review of Romancing the Stone (1984) by Scott A — 27 May 2013
The story is about mousy Joan Wilder played by Kathleen Turner who is a romance novelist and has trouble selling her works because they aren't believable. The basic problem is that she hasn't had any real adventure in her life.
All this changes when it turns out that her sister has been kidnapped by evil art dealers in Colombia; they have also sent her a map leading to a valuable treasure by her kidnapped sister. Nasty but cowardly Ralph played by Danny Devito who is the cousin of the main villain played by Zack Norman has been assigned to claim the map from Joan.
But she is rescued by adventurer Jack Colton played by Michael Douglas who helps her to find her sister. This story is continued in the sequel the following year titled "The Jewel Of The Nile" which had a more interesting and fun storyline.
Romancing the Stone gets a 9.5/10.
