Review of Romancing the Stone (1984) by Matthew C — 15 May 2014
Quite an enjoyable riff on the adventure serials and tales of Hollywood lore. Michael Douglas spends a lot of time being his equal part rugged and suave self. Kathleen Turner plays the star-crossed romance novelist urging to swing on vines with a talented blend of damsel in distress and damsel loving every minute of it.
DeVito steals the screen many times with his angry wit that kills me every time. That little man in his white suit puffing on a cigar is just so freaking funny. The story is simple enough and fun enough for any viewer who craves for the wild.
It has all the set pieces, the mystery, and yes the romance. While nothing very special or worthy of high praise, the movie speaks for itself in sweeping us off our feet. True Hollywood form here.
