Review of Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired (2008) by Garth D — 21 Nov 2008
First off: wow, I never knew the details of the case and assumed that Polanski left the country because he thought he was going to be convicted. Turns out, he admitted to fucking a minor (including...how do I put this...in the back of a volkswagen), plead guilty then wasn't happy with what his sentence was going to be.
So, he's a pervert, let's get beyond that.
Very fascinating movie, delves a little bit into who Polanski was, how he was changed by Sharon Tate's murder. Asks a lot of questions (Why would the mother of the girl leave her alone with partier/womanizer Polanski? Why would Polanski get the slap on the wrist he got? What was up with the vindictive judge? Why was the european press so quick to support him while trying to smear the THIRTEEN YEAR OLD victim?) but doesn't provide any easy answers.
Very good movie, overall, though it could have been a bit shorter, I think.
