Review of Roman J. Israel, Esq. (2017) by Martin W — 23 Nov 2017
An OK movie that attempts to punch above its weight but fails to achieve what it set out to achieve. A rather transparent morality play about the fall and rise of an activist attorney who sells out and then tries to redeem himself.
Adequate performances from all involved, but Colin Farrell is badly miscast as the would-be sleazy corporate attorney. Denzel does what he can with the material and gives a good performance of a man grappling with change after 40 years of consistency.
Worth seeing, but only if you don't have to pay for it.
