Review of Roman Holiday (1953) by Marj D — 31 Oct 2008
The last scene, in its few minutes of screen time, has to be the most heart-breaking and woe-filled shot in history. The entire look Hepburn gives off at Peck, the smile, the look on his face, him leaving last, him turning back, the way the camera moves away, offering the viewer that last glimpse of delight, never relents, never succumbs and this is then and now, one of the best romantic films ever.
If another like this comes around, it won't be too soon.
