Review of Roman Holiday (1953) by Jiaqi C — 02 Feb 2009
A simply delightful, warm and pure romantic comedy which combines cliched (yet clearly effective) elements of 'fish out of water' and dramatic irony to deliver a truly likable film. Backed by the dynamic and charismatic Gregory Peck and hilarious Eddie Albert, Audrey Hepburn (in her first major film) is simply gorgeous (both in act and looks...her short hair wonderfully accentuates her innocent and sunny persona, yet she is as regal as a queen when the time demands) as a reluctant princess thrown into the real world of 1950's Rome.
Uplifting and unabashedly sweet (and also subtly bittersweet), it is simply a joy to watch again and again on a Sunday afternoon.
