Review of Roman Holiday (1953) by Alejandro R — 24 Jan 2015
Was lots of fun. Both Peck and Hepburn have some really good chemistry here. .
A love that just couldn't be due to duty, but nevertheless the brief romantic encounter is an important milestone in the journey of a young woman set to inherit a throne. While taboo it does give her sufficient emotional growth to better own her duties instead of having them own and overwhelm her. .
Gregory Peck's walk at the end is classic and a great way to end the film. The desire for the romance is very much there, but he realizes it can't be so he must accept it for what it is. He pauses to reflect, allows himself to experience all of it---the joy of the ride, the desire to want more of it, the mourning of the loss of it, and then finally the push onward without it. .
It's a day of amazing memories forever burned into their hearts that will continue to contribute to who they are and who they must be. It's a testament to the lasting impact such a short period of time can have when spent with certain special people. An adventure of the heart! .
