Review of Roman Holiday (1953) by Jake G — 04 Oct 2009
This one goes in the time capsule. ROMAN HOLIDAY is a truly genre defining romantic comedy, combining a comedic sensibility with a romantic wistfulness. For the men in the audience, one can identify with Peck, a kind expatriate journalist who needs a woman in his life.
Women may at first envy and then feel sorry for Hepburn, who longs only for a carefree holiday. The third character is beautiful Rome, whose vagary delights help structure the film. If I had to suggest a movie to those who usually disdain B&W movies, I'd suggest HOLIDAY.
It is a truly timeless movie that will be enjoyed for generations to come.
