Review of Roma (2018) by Mark%20 M — 02 Jan 2019
Simply crafted and beautifully shot examination of the day-to-day existence of a woman we never see. We learn about the life of Cleo, a domestic in a doctor's home who's deeply involved with the raising of four children amidst domestic and societal turmoil.
With what seems at first like a bleak and hopeless life, we see Cleo conquer the issues she faces to build herself a fulfilling life within the family she serves. Themes of personal powerlessness, women's challenges in a paternal world and violent social upheaval are woven through the film but the quiet strength of Cleo is the focus.
The movie educates enriches the viewer and is as good as it gets this year.
