Review of Roma (2018) by Elliot S — 04 Jan 2019
I'm not sure what the reviewers see in this movie that I don't. Having watched the movie I am reminded of the story "The Emperor's New Clothes" from my youth, where all the adults kept complementing the Emperor about his new clothes, until finally a child pointed out that the Emperor was naked.
I am the child in this case. The movie has no clothes. Although it is beautifully filmed, there is no story here, the acting consists of a lot of people looking at each other, creative camera angles, kids playing and nothing really happening.
I think the critics are all making fun of us here. They're telling us this is a great movie even though it is boring. I kept waiting for it to turn into something and got sucked into watching the whole thing.
Don't waste your time.
