Review of Roma (2018) by André B — 29 Dec 2018
My wife and I enjoy watching films together, but if she feels that if it's to be too intense, she has me watch it first so I can let her know if she should watch it or not. This was absolutely one of the most devastatingly beautiful films I've had the pleasure of seeing in my life.
It's plain to see the incredible mastery with which the film was made, both photographically and conceptually. I've only sobbed this hard at a movie one other time, the other being while watching Dear Zachary.
Not only was it crushing to me to watch as Cleo lost her baby, leaving me weeping uncontrollably, but even more so as she admits that she never wanted her baby in the first place. And to end it with the plane overhead was such a perfect ending as we see life in both micro and macro.
What a powerful film. Wow.
