Review of Roma (2018) by Sayak C — 30 Dec 2018
I agree that it is a beautifully filmed movie. But, all the award hoopla escapes me. It is a definite thank you and acknowledgment to his Cleo (the Libo in the dedication?) But, I was struck how Cleo would risk her life for these children, but barely responded to the news that her mother had lost her land.
..home...what the hell? Was I the only person hoping Cleo would save up enough money ( money? what money) to get a ticket for one of those planes that kept flying overhead? Just another Driving Miss Daisy, which was also heaped with Oscar nominations.
Ah, how the upper classes love to love their servants and how Hollywood loves to reward them. Best Picture of the Year...hardly.
