Review of Roma (2018) by Lamontraymond — 09 Dec 2018
At this point, it's either #1 or #2 on my movie-of-the-year list. There were a couple of moments in this film when the woman sitting next to me looked over because I unconsciously let out gasps. Incredibly emotional and beautifully shot.
Yalitza Aparicio as Cleo is incredibly good in the role. The hospital sequence and the beach sequence were two of the best scenes committed to film in recent years. I knew going in it had to be good when Joe Morgenstern called it the best movie he's ever seen (though I was a bit skeptical of that for a time - felt like hyperbole), and it absolutely lived up to the hype.
This is a film that demands that you see it on the big screen with other people around you. It's a human film that requires your not seeing it along.
