Review of Rollerball (2002) by Banjo O — 15 May 2006
What is it about so many 'classic' 70's sci-fi films (eg. Soylent Green, Logan's RUn, Rollerball) that make them even MORE timely now? Rollerball is a thought-provoking film that creates a realistic and believable world where corporations reign supreme, and society lives vicariously through violent sports.
Caan is great as a man who is struggling to keep his integrity in the face of an amoral world... this is a film where the point is not on rescuing a princess, saving the world, winning a war or even winning a Rollerball game.
.. it's about one person standing up and refusing to compromise himself.
