Review of Roller Town (2011) by Troy F — 19 Sep 2012
There's something about this movie by comedy troupe Picnicface that you can't help but enjoy. The spoofy BeeGee's musical interludes, the telephones (fruit-inspired), the accidentally-suicidal mobsters, THAT voice on Music and the dance movie cliches throughout--all are pretty funny.
The package actually comes together quite nicely (as does Leo's "package" in his hilarious sex/musical sequence with "classically trained roller skater" Julia). That is, until the last 5-10 minutes, which were a bit of a death spiral.
Endings are always tough, but this one seemed random and unfunny compared to the rest of the movie. But, I'm willing to forgive a bad ending and say it's worth a watch, just don't expect too much! It's a spoof movie, Canadian-made and probably best enjoyed by anyone who was actually around during disco.
We know that people actually did wear their hair that way and those clothes were once in fashion. It's almost unbearable to watch, yet oh so funny.
