Review of Role Models (2008) by Zhi Yang T — 10 Jun 2011
I always love a good laugh while watching comedy films and as usual, I burst out laughing all the way while watching another great comedy film, Role Models. The film tells a simple yet unlikely story of two energy drink salesmen (Seann William Scott, Paul Rudd) who are ordered to perform 150 hours of community service as punishment for various offences. For their service, the two men work at a program designed to pair kids with adult role models which is known as "Sturdy Wings".
I have to say, I totally enjoyed this movie a lot. It has a solid script to keep the story interesting and hilarious which is what I like from a good old comedy film and also stunning comedic performances by the two lead actors, Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott which both of them are working to promote an energy drink, "Minotaur", to school children, and to encourage kids to stay off drugs. Wheeler (Seann William Scott) loves the job, Danny (Paul Rudd) hates it, viewing it as a mindless, dead-end job.
Performances by other actors which includes Elizabeth Banks, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Bobb'e J. Thompson, Jane Lynch and the very funny Ken Jeong who starred in other great comedies like The Hangover were all great and superbly hilarious, it kept me laughing throughout the whole film, great job.
The actor which I especially loved the performance is character Ronnie Shields who is a foul-mouthed streetwise miscreant obsessed with breasts, who has driven away all the other "Bigs" he has been paired with, played by the very young Bobb'e J. Thompson. Now, his performance as this character was amazing, I can't believe such a young kid could star in a crude comedy, telling all the crude jokes and profanity used in the movie and he potrayed the character so well that it keeps me thinking is this really a kid doing this performance? Great work done there on his role.
Role Models is essentially a crude and rude comedy movie much like to most other comedies nowawdays but what it does great is that it doesn't cross the line of crudeness and profanity, also for nudity. I find the film had the f word used only at the right time which is good. Unlike other films where there are a whole lot of f bombs here and there when you have to find yourself having a miscount of how many times of the word did they used as it is in almost all the lines of the film.
Director David Wain, who directed other comedies like, (Wet Hot American Summer and The Ten), directed this comedy which is what I suppose as a great sense of humour. Incredible work and one of his best films ever done.
Role Models is a great comedy film that is guranteed to deliver laughs, romance and even action to the audience. It is a comedy that is sure to send you laughing and laughing all the way. I've seriously enjoyed this great and hilarious comedy and I give it a 80% FRESH. Some people may find a young kid scolding vulgarities and talking sick and crude jokes, disturbing. But otherwise, it is all meant for the laughs and joy. :).
