Review of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) by Jonnajem — 12 Jan 2017
Even though this is a prequel to Star Wars (1977), it maybe the best standalone movie ive ever seen. Every character has their own quirks and importance within the roles they play which make each and every one of them likable for different reasons.
The slow start just allows the movie to climb to infinite heights. Great acting all around from both the Rebel and Empire core cast. most people complain about the CGI Peter Cushing, but I honestly thought he was still alive cause the CGI was so convincing overall (Leia.
..maybe not so much, slightly more noticeable). The action was dirty, yet strategic, like the space battles back in Return of the Jedi or The Battle of Hoth in Empire Strikes Back. Made it feel just like a classic star wars movie, even more so than The Force Awakens did.
Though the first act may chug a little on first viewing, it has a much less severe effect on second viewing. All in all, this is a damn good film.
