Review of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) by Watcher76 — 09 May 2017
The movie is slow to start. It was boring and too militaristic.
The lead actress is pretty with bright eyes, but she lacks charisma. There was a chance for character development when she turns from a young girl into a woman, but this wasn't shown. The black guy helped her after her mom died, but then he just disappears. We do not get to see the girl grow up or form any connection with him. She just turns into a woman in an imperial jail cell.
The action picks up when she meets the chinese guy who is blind. He can still fight like how the Daredevil fights.
Darth Vader shows up for like 1 minute, and then it gets boring again with all this rebel planning. The jokes fall flat.
The rebel ships are on a mission to steal data about the Death Star. They arrive at a planet with islands and palm trees. They start fighting. That was interesting. But then all the crew members die except for 1 guy and the girl.
She manages to use the satellite to send the information about the Death Star to the rebels, but then the Death Star itself arrives and sets off what looks like a nuclear bomb on the planet. The girl hugs the guy and then dies, so this movie was a tragedy.
Then there's this short scene where Darth Vader uses his light saber to kill some rebels.
I give the movie 1 star for the lasers and explosions and another star for the action sequences. It has a simple plot without any twists or turns. The dialogue is uninspiring. It still has a Star Wars flavor, so fans of the older movies may enjoy this more than I did.
