Review of Rogue (2007) by Amanda G — 30 Aug 2008
After watching director Greg McLean's terrifying 'Wolf Creek' a few years back, I have eagerly awaited his next film which is once again set in Australia (What a surprise). However, this time McLean ditches the deserted outback for the rivers and swamps of a National Park.
I have always been a fan of b-movies with giant killer animals and such, so finding out that a director with actual talent had made what is essentially a glorified b-movie was an exciting prospect.
McLean takes the beautiful landscapes of Australia and once again shows them to their full potential with wonderful cinematography. The concept of this film may be simple, but the effort put into it rises it far above every other giant crocodile movie ever made.... sadly thats not saying much but Rogue really is an impressive film.
This Aussie director certainly knows how to make an exciting film out of a tired idea, and actually succeeds in making the crocodile scary once again.
+ Fantastic CGI.
+ Suspense filled.
+ Beautiful landscape cinematography.
+ Springs new life into an old idea.
- A bit predictable in places.
- Will probably put you off Australia if Wolf Creek didnt already.
Verdict: The best killer croc movie ever. Simple idea filled to the brim with suspense and shocks.
