Review of Rogue (2007) by Elizabeth R — 11 May 2009
When it comes to the movie "Rouge" don't let the craptacular, very standard looking, B-Movie DVD cover that features the badly rendered jaws of a crocodile feasting on the films title fool you, because this is actually a pretty decent little flick.
In fact, "Rogue" is quite easily the single best killer croc film ever made. (Though I understand that isn't really saying much). The film was directed by Greg McLean who also gave us "Wolf Creek" a few years back and is the story about a boat load of tourists in the outback who get picked off, one by one, by a man eating crocodile.
Where the film most succeeds is the wonderful suspense created by its very competent director. The story is average, and in the hands of anyone else could have resulted in a much different, much worse movie.
The film doesn't pull pull punches in its gore either. People die and they die well (which is always a good thing in a horror film). This is a good enough film to at least have been given a shot in the theaters.
The fact that it has been relegated straight to DVD while films like "Disaster Movie" get wide releases is a travesty on a Hindenberg-esque scale. My advice is to check this one out. If you like these kinds of movies you won't be disappointed.
It's a lot of fun on a nerdy Friday night.
