Review of Rogue (2007) by Duncan S — 08 Aug 2009
Greg McLean, who also directed the hit Wolf Creek (that I thought was way overrated), brings a bigger budget to the killer crocodile film Rogue. Now Rogue is a fine little horror and it turns out a lot better than what I thought when I first heard ?killer crocodile?, but for some reason McLean?s work so far makes me say ??eh?.
The large budget does allow for some better than expected effects. The croc looks awesome, I must say, and ends up being the main attraction.
Rogue falls somewhere between straight formula ?group trapped by monster? and original storytelling and at the end of the day falls too close formula for me to give a whole-hearted recommendation. I will however give the film a half-hearted recommendation in that the film succeeds more than it doesn?t.
