Review of Rogue (2007) by Kalan S — 18 Aug 2009
Terrific. Easily one of my favorite horror genres. Rogue takes a readily used subject and expertly crafts it into an entertaining, intense foray, into the murky waterways of the Australian outback. Beautifully filmed with stunning footage of countrysides and wildlife, this film almost seems as though you're watching Planet Earth or a special on Discovery.
Although simple in plot (and fairly predictable), Rogue is filmed with such excellent fashion, that not finding something to like about it is hard pressed. The picture on the cover gives it the definitive air of low budget, "B-movie" horror. But the cast, led by Rhada Mitchell (Pitch Black, Man On Fire) is solid. And the direction from Greg McLean (Wolf Creek), is handled superbly.
A great film, that, once you get past the terrible cover, is truly worth the time to watch. A must see for any fan of Jaws or Lake Placid. I loved this movie, give it a shot, you just might too.
