Review of Rogue (2007) by Michael J — 25 Aug 2009
I give this film 4 stars not because I loved it... but because it is a good outing that isn't relying on the common conventions that must horror films do nowadays.
Rogue is a modernized version crossbreed of Lake Placid and Jaws. There is little gore, there isn't constant action, and the crocodile's appearance is limited until the end. This movie relies on suspense and tension, much the same way that Jaws did back in the mid 70's.
I will admit that this is not my style of horror and I found half of the movie to drag a little, but the other half of the movie was very suspenseful and a lot of tense moments were created.
If you like homage/throw back films that still have their own identity then give Rogue a try. OR, if you enjoy the countless number of giant/killer ocean/lake monster films, Rogue will actually impress you.
