Review of Roger Dodger (2002) by Josh L — 29 May 2004
I expected much more from this film. I love American indies, and I was told THIS is is one of the best independent movies in last few years. I expected smart, entertaining adult comedy about relationships, love, puberty & adulthood, but instead I got rather blank, at times boring film, utterly forgettable, based almost entirely on dialogues, but despite all that talk talk talk, it doesn`t actually say anything we haven`t heard before.
Actors are good, young Jesse Eisenbeg is sweet and believable. The ending is absolutely brilliant, while the rest is quite pointless. It`s not smart, funny or entertaining enough. It didn`t make me think, it didn`t make me laugh, and I was quite happy when it was over.
If you are really interested in modern men`s psychology, read Nick Hornby instead..
