Review of Roger Dodger (2002) by Wendy W — 03 Jun 2006
Oh how I love indie flicks. And this one fits the mold perfectly. An egotistical, self-proclaimed ladies man flexes his ego while trying to show his nephew the ropes when it comes to getting women or more precisely, sealing the deal.
Along the way, he just may have learned a thing or two himself. Campbell Scott and Jesse Eisenberg are the leading actors, and what a joy to watch. I loved Campbell in the few of his movies I've seen, including "Singles" and "Dying Young.
" He really made me hate him here, which is the mark of fine acting. I last saw Jesse in "The Squid and the Whale" (another indie flick that I recommend), and he is a real up and comer in Hollywood.
I'm sure we'll be seeing him in many more teen angst type of roles (I sure hope so!) The kid's got soul. Co-stars in smaller parts include Isabella Rosellini, Jennifer Beals, Ben Shenkman (from HBO's "Angels in America") and, don't let this scare you away, Elizabeth Berkley.
