Review of Roger Dodger (2002) by Mjs M — 14 Dec 2009
Watching this film was an experience and a half - a glimpse into a world that 'innocent' chicks like me are definitely not familiar with.
Almost immediately, I found myself seriously disliking the main character - his arrogance and inability to shut up covering for deep and obvious insecurities. Just as I was about to wonder 'what the hell am I doing watching this crap?', Jesse's character, Nick, arrives and I breathe a sigh of relief... at last, an innocent in this sex crazed cynical world.
Only now, the crazy uncle is going to try and corrup his nephew under the guise of teaching him how to pick up women, something the lead himself is shockingly appalling at - as it turns out.
By the end of this journey, I was in love... in contrast to his ruthless uncle, Nick's sweetness was all the more brilliant - even as he struggled with himself to balance his own integrity with his uncle's persuasion. I'm not sure what a male would get from this film, but as a member of the sex they are hunting, I think the kid left his uncle for dead.
Great ending too, leaves the film bouncing around in your head for days afterwards, wondering what would have happened next.
