Review of Roger & Me (1989) by Andrew K — 09 Mar 2008
In his directorial debut, Michael Moore sets out to find out why Roger Smith, CEO of GM (at the time the world's largest corporation) is killing his hometown of Flint, Michigan by sending all of the jobs abroad.
Moore fleshes out his trademark guerilla style journalism. It's not as slick as his later jabs at power (Bowling For Columbine, Fahrenheit 9/11), but is no less effective. His trips down blue highways of the movie are as interesting as the search for Smith.
Most notably his interview with the woman selling rabbits, "for pets or food," is especially surprising and begs the question, "Is this America?".
