Review of Rocky V (1990) by Tristan M — 25 Jul 2015
This is the last film of the original movie franchise, and it is the lowest of the bunch. Rocky is no longer fighting due to brain damage from his fight with the monster Ivan in Rocky IV, so know he's once again dealing with financial troubles, and his son hating him, and more opponents just wanting to fight him.
It's always been nice to also have Rocky life outside of training be snown, it adds death and is important, but hear that is the whole movie, he's not fighting anymore. He's training instead, and when he's trainee bails for a deal worth more money, Rocky has nothing really to do with fighting.
Then his trainee comes back to fight him, and when Rocky for once refuses, a large street brawl takes place. It's not a bad fight, they both take a pounding, but the young trainee always gets Rocky after he drops him and walks away in success, so he's a cheap player.
Overall the acting, script are still good, but the plot falls far short of the others. It is the first one that isn't just another copy with small details and the opponent changed, but we miss the classic Rocky fights and this one falls short in excitement and just getting out attention in general.
Saw it coming from the description, but it's a Rocky movie so had to watch it. It doesn't ruin the franchise, but it doesn't add anything, and is a poor way to sent off their potentials last movie, until the 2006 remake saved them.
