Review of Rocky V (1990) by Anssi V — 13 Jun 2010

The thing is, this isn't a Rocky film. Sure, it has Sylvester Stallone in it playing a character named Rocky Balboa, but this doesn't have the essence of a Rocky film. In the previous films we got to see who Rocky Balboa truly was.

He was a fighter with a lot of heart, a man who understood what it means to be a man both inside and outside of the ring. Sure, he did a few stupids thing from time to time, but he essentially was a good and wise man.

So who the heck is this guy in this so called Rocky V, who ignores his son in favour of a total loser, doesn't learn from the mistakes done by both him and his loved ones and in the end ends up precisely where he left all those years ago? I'm just asking, because I don't really recognise this character.

Occasionally I saw glimpses of the old Rocky, but those are few and far between. The rest of the crew was pretty much the same and the story, while pretty stupid and not a Rocky one, wasn't a total screw-up, so I can't really say that this was a total waste of time.

The Rocky saga didn't need this one, though. It's unnecessary.
