Review of Rocky V (1990) by Collin B — 10 Nov 2010
I don't think that "Rocky V" is the worst film of the series like some have made it out to be. I love that Rocky returns to his roots and, at times, the film makes a genuine emotional connection with the first one. However, I don't care for this part of the "Rocky" story. It makes sense for Rocky take on an apprentice, but the way the story plays out is beyond cliche. Rocky forgets his priorities, Tommy gets lured into the dark side of biz, Rocky is hurt by this, there's a fight. Boring.
"Rocky V" makes me appreciate "Rocky Balboa" (the next and final installment) more. While that film isn't a classic, it does provide the series with a nicer sense of closure than this one would have.
