Review of Rocky V (1990) by Jim F — 17 Jul 2011

At least this movie gets back to being about boxing. ok the way he lost his fortune is a bit silly, but it's great to see him back working and slumming it in Mickey's gritty gym, although I dont think it was necessary for Rocky to wear his old clothes again.

Things never get that bad. The Tommy Gun character was fine and the way he and Rocky got themselves into a streetbrawl wasn't even that awful. It's not like it went into 12 rounds or anything ridiculous.

This movie gave us a story. A story that for the 1st time was different to the previous one's. There was more dialogue, good family/loyaly issues, and Paulie became funny again. Although Rocky didn't box, there was plenty of action.

The inclusion and nature of the flashy promoter being selfish and exploitative was the message behind this movie.
