Review of Rocky V (1990) by Sam E — 17 Aug 2011
Obviously this is the weakest installment in the Rocky franchise but that doesnt necessarily mean its a bad movie, Godfather III was the weakest of the Godfather trilogy but is that a good movie?
Obviously the absence of boxing is the blow that knocks Rocky V down from a full 5 stars.
Sylvester Stallone I believe displays a brilliant performance.
The main criticism is that by the end of each movie in the franchise Rocky won something for or about himself, in the original he proved he could go the distance, in its sequal he won the belt, in number 3 he proved he was able to overcome his fear, in number 4 he stepped back into the ring to avenge his friend. In number 5 however what did he really gain as he delivered that final punch to Tommy Gunn?
Nevertheless it is still a good film, just falls a bit flat when compared to the rest of the series.
