Review of Rocky IV (1985) by Bryan K — 11 May 2011
I guess this film (along with the third movie) proved to be motivations for making sequels for their own sake; not to mention, for profit. It is inspiring, on one hand, to see a character who keeps fighting and standing no matter how many blows he takes to the head or body.
Here, Rocky does build up and get stonger (thanks to a notable training montage). And talk about going the distance on top of the Russian mountains. But the question is, Is everything believable? This fourth entry is considered to be the best in the series, as some of my friends have stated.
For me, it doesn't (like the first two sequels) live up to the original, which is still the best. Here, things are still in the egotistical realm, and are mainly about the fights, as well as the opponent.
I will admit, Drago, like Mr. T, is pretty classic ("I must break you."), as is Rocky wearing an American flag. Overall, a self-important progression in the series. Good ending, soundtrack ("Hearts on Fire"), and training and photo montages, though.
