Review of Rocky IV (1985) by Ryan H — 24 May 2011

If you were to ask anyone who has heard of Rocky what their favorite installment of the franchise was; they would say "the one with the Russain in it". Rocky IV is definitely the corniest and most campy of the entire series but is still better than any film I've ever seen. Rocky and Apollo are now best of friends and talk frequently. Rocky is still world champion but Apollo has aged a bit and has been retired for about five years. After seeing the superhuman Russain boxer Ivan Drago invade the American boxing scene, Creed immediately challenges him in a good will exhibition bout.

Soon Creed realizes the Russain is too big and too strong for him but lets his pride take over and tells Rocky to not stop the fight, no matter what happens. Creed is beaten so severely in the second round that Rocky is tempted to throw in the towel but honors his friend's request. Creed ends up dying from his injuries in the ring. Afterwards Rocko packs up with Duke and Paulie to train in Russia for a battle of revenge against the indestructable Drago.

This movie has a fucking awesome soundtrack that's all classic '80s. It doesn't have any of the original music but saves it with a great score. Like I said, it gets a bit over the top during the last scenes but it's still a great one.
