Review of Rocky IV (1985) by Mloy X — 25 Mar 2014
Duke (Tony Burton): What's happening out there?
Rocky (Stallone): He's winning... I see three of him out there!
Paulie (Burt Young): Hit the one in the middle.
Duke (Tony Burton): Right! Hit the one in the middle.
As sequels go, this would be the Rocky franchise's "Quest For Peace". The first three films made perfect sense but this one, just as Adrian told Rocky seemed like a pointless fight. I understand he was upset at what happened to Apollo but it was still no reason to get yourself beat-up (or potentially die) just to prove a point. But then again, I guess that just what "hero" characters do-- it's the principle of the matter; doesn't really have to make sense. The bout between Stallone and Lundren was pretty interesting though, as I've mentioned previously, the storyline may have suffered since the initial film but one thing remains the same: the fights are very well choreographed and equally as good executed by the actors. Thus, this film is still entertaining to watch but it lacked the charm of the first film and felt like a sequel-for-the-sake-of-making-a-sequel, rather than actually showing how the characters and their stories have progressed.
