Review of Rocky IV (1985) by Craig C — 18 Jun 2014
Written, directed and starring Sly Stallone in Summer 1985 at the height of the Cold War, the film reeks of American Exceptional-ism at the expense of Russian stereotypes. The script is padded with slo-mo montages with Survivor's cliched AOR, then ends with post-fight political speech that's as subtle as a sledgehammer and foreshadows the Rambo series.
Dolph Lundgren and Brigette Nielsen display the acting range of Mike Tyson, and everyone else shows the depth of a rubber glove. A BAD Eighties Flashback desperately in need of a riffing....
