Review of Rocky III (1982) by I Don't Know W — 08 Jun 2011
This movie starts off great. It shows Rocky's streak of wins but also shows a new boxer, who seems to be a good prospect. But after that, the movie becomes very average. I think the biggest flaw is the scenes themselves.
They don't have the drama or the excellent dialogue the first two movies had. I think that's because the movie is to short. If the movie was 20 or so minutes longer, they could have had scenes that didn't seem rushed.
Also, the villain is completely unrealistic. Sure, Apollo was cheesy, but he had a reason for being cheesy, because he was an attention getter. Clubber Lang, on the other hand, has no reason for being a jerk.
He's just a tacked on jerk, nothing else. But, even with it's flaws, there's some good to the movie too. For example, the fight is one of the best in the whole series (The second fight). Also, Rocky's just as likable as ever.
Plus, there are some plot twists that keep you on edge, which was a change. Rocky had everything at the beginning of this movie, so, like Rocky 2, it was fun to see how'd he react to all the money and popularity.
But, it could have been better if they had spend more time on it. But still, it's a good sequel, just flawed.
