Review of Rocky III (1982) by Scott S — 18 Nov 2012
Rocky III (1982) -- [6.5] -- SPOILER REVIEW: Sylvester Stallone returns both as star and director, this time pitted against a one-dimensionally downright evil opponent named Clubber Lang (Mr. T). Carl Weathers returns as former opponent Apollo Creed, offering his training services after the death of Mickey (Burgess Meredith).
The film gains dramatic heft from Mickey's departure, and I was glad to see supporting players Talia Shire and Burt Young given a few meaty scenes to work with. It's also cool to see former sparring partners, Rocky and Apollo, becoming friends.
Cheesy? Hell, yes. But I enjoy "Rocky III" anyway. Look for future wrestling superstar Hulk Hogan as Thunderlips in a stand-out, over-the-top charity benefit fight. And brace yourself for Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger" song.
(You know you love it.).
